Youth Services
MHA in collaboration will multiple funders including Department of Mental Health (DMH) and Department of Children & Families (DCF) has developed an array of resources for young adults between the ages of 17-25. Often individuals referred are likely to transition into adult services.
Community Residences – These are transitional sites that foster mental and physical health, teach skills necessary for independent living and assist with educational and/or vocational pursuits. The youth DMH funded site focuses on the acquisition of coping mechanisms utilizing a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) approach. A DCF funded program works with youth where it has been assessed that the individual will benefit from either mental health or developmental disability services in adulthood.
Supported Housing – This is a community outreach model that works with individuals between the ages of 17-25 who live independently. Assisting individuals to secure affordable, safe, and desirable housing is a priority. Support hours are typically during the day and early evening, focusing on activities of daily living. An afterhours, urgent response team is available to individuals in the supported housing models.
